Queen Mother's Funeral
5/04/2002

We decided to attend part of the Queen Mother's funeral to experience a piece of British history and to represent our families in some way. We couldn't make it to the actual funeral (on the tuesday) instead we went to watch the procession for the lying in state. This procession was on the friday before the actual funeral service and consisted of the procession of her coffin from the Queen's Chapel, St James's Palace, to Westminster Hall for the lying in state.
We were at the end of the route, near the number 3 on the route map. It was very busy, as you can see, and the camera really got a better view than we did, but at least we were there.

The best position we could get. There are quite a few people around... The camera crew and security get a decent view. You can just see the first of the guards marching past here.

The guards line up in front of Westminster Hall. Wide shot with Westminster Abbey in the background. All the key photographers and dignitaries get a good view-point.

Guards with white hats. You can just see what look like navy guys marching past here. A wide shot of this corner.

Another wide shot, showing how crowded it is. You can just see some guards here on horse back with gold vests. You can see the coffin here in the center of the picture, with the white and yellow standard draped over it.

Zoom in on the coffin. The procession ended here, at the entrance to Westminster Hall. More guards with black hats.

Guards with funny white hats. At least it was a nice day. Plenty of clear skies. If we thought our position was bad, here are all the people behind us!

We were standing just underneath Big Ben, and here it is!
