On sunday October 17 we left lovely Chiang Mai and arrived in Phuket, the "tropical paradise" of Thailand, an Island south of Bangkok. Phuket was a beautiful place, surrounded by many smaller Islands with plenty to see and do. We spent 9 days in Phuket (John & Brenda only stayed 5 days).

In Phuket we stayed at The Diamond Cliff Resort which was a magnificent resort located on the side of a hill at the northern end of Patong Beach. The resort featured 3 pools, multiple restaraunts, a health spa, and huge suites with multiple rooms and plenty of living space. Basically, we were spoilt!

Patong Beach is a large town which extends the length of the Patong beach itself. It is a major tourist town with many shops and restaraunts, and lots of markets and tour companies ready to sell anything they can to the tourists.

There were plenty of activities and sights to see at Phuket and we tried to do and see them all! We started with a canoing trip where a boat took us to the middle of a group of islands in Phang-Nga and we climbed into canoes and were rowed in and out of these islands, through caves into hidden lagoons, and saw fish, crabs, bats and monkeys.

Along the way the boat stopped at "James Bond Island" which is a big rock sticking out of the water which apparently featured in the James Bond movie, The Man With The Golden Gun. We still have to watch the movie again to confirm this fact!

Another day we took a trip to Phi-Phi Island. This is supposed to be an island paradise but we really only got to see one beach and not much else. Fortunately the beach was lovely and the weather was sunny, so we enjoyed our afternoon on the beach. We did some sunbaking ...

Luckily our resort is a little more luxurious than the accomodation they had to offer on this beach.

We decided the best way to tour Phuket and see the sights was to hire a car, so we hired this cool Jeep Wrangler. We kept it for a couple of days and drove around most of Phuket, seeing the Phuket Aquarium, the Gibbon Rehabilition Farm, and many other cool sights which you wouldn't see from organized tours. Not to mention the experience of driving in Thailand! An experience we will leave for the reader to discover for themselves.

Chris also did some SCUBA diving with Santana which he says was excellent. On the right the gang is enjoying the boat trip back from a day of SCUBA and snorkeling at Racha Yai Island.

The sunset views from our hotel room were pretty spectacular, as was the whole holiday. We highly recommend a trip to Thailand and will probably be back there ourselves before too long.
