We arrived in Bangkok at about 8am (Bangkok time) on monday October 11 1999. We celebrated our arrival by sitting around and having a few drinks of our duty free alcohol, as you can see here!

Bangkok was a huge city, which never seemed to end, no matter which direction you looked. This was the view from our hotel, the Pathumwan Princess, from the 21st floor.

There were many Buddha temples in Bangkok. We did a tour of The Grand Palace, which contained the most sacred temples, along with a tour of the most famous temples around the city. The solid gold Buddha weighing 5.5 tonnes was impressive, as was The Great Reclining Buddha. This is a shot of The Grand Palace from outside.

Almost as impressive as the temples was the shopping! There was a huge multi-level shopping complex joined to our hotel so we did not have far to go when we needed to buy something. And don't worry, we did plenty of shopping. Prices are very cheap, especially when you are good at haggling.
